Cinco de Mayo activities planned in downtown Pasco

A multi-day Cinco de Mayo Festival is planned next week in Pasco, coordinated by the Downtown Pasco Development Authority.

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army’s victory over French forces in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. It’s also come to celebrate Mexican culture.

Here’s a schedule:

▪  April 30-May 1: Cinco de Mayo soccer tournament at the Tri-Cities Youth Soccer Association fields at 6160 Burden Blvd.

▪  7 p.m. May 4: A free performance of Teatro Estudiantil by Columbia Basin College students at Salon La Michoacana, 417 W. Lewis St. Teatro Estudiantil dramatizes events that led to France’s invasion of Mexico.

▪  9 a.m. May 7: Cinco de Mayo 5K Fun Run & Walk in downtown Pasco. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Cost is $10.

▪  11 a.m. May 7: Annual Cinco de Mayo parade in downtown, followed by a festival from noon to 7 p.m.

The Pasco Farmers Market also will open May 7.
