Presentation on cemetery headstone symbolism set Feb. 10

Local historian Stacia Gunderson will give a talk on cemetery headstones at the Tri-City Genealogical Society’s upcoming meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at Charbonneau, 8264 W. Grandridge Blvd., Kennewick.

Gunderson will give a presentation on the importance of the symbolism used on cemetery headstones. She will discuss the fraternal symbols placed on headstones, describe why certain flowers were used in decorative grave markers and explain the use of certain wording patterns used when providing information about the deceased.

Gunderson has worked as an interpreter ranger for national and state parks and was the resident pre-Hanford historian for the former CREHST museum.
