‘Colour & Rhyme’ event Jan. 22 brings film, music, art to Richland
If you missed the chance to see Davin Diaz’s powerful art documentary Faceless Fields of Colour at its premiere last fall, don’t fret.
An encore screening is planned Jan. 22 during Colour & Rhyme in Richland.
The event also will include music, poetry and live painting. It starts at 9 p.m. at the Emerald of Siam is at 1314 Jadwin Ave.
“There’s so much talent bubbling under the surface of the Tri-Cities,” and Colour & Rhyme is a way to showcase some of it, Diaz said.
He owns DrewBoy Creative, which aims to “improve the world we live in by harvesting art and creativity.” Its new gallery — at 285 Williams Blvd., across from the Uptown Theatre — debuts Feb. 6 with RED, a show featuring works that celebrate the color red and love.
Colour & Rhyme will raise money for Red’s artist awards.
The Jan. 22 Colour & Rhyme event will kick off with Diaz’s short documentary, followed by performances from Jordan Chaney and Harley Estrada of Urban Poets Society, music from Zilliox and live painting by artist Michael Nemo.
Diaz’s film centers on Tri-City artist Cameron Mills and his creation and exhibition of a series of contemporary paintings.
A young artist, Jalynn-Marie “Bird” Gutierrez, collaborated on the paintings and also is featured.
The film is creative and avant garde, exploring art’s power to inspire, connect, influence.
“Cameron has a wonderful quote in the movie, which is, ‘If you can make a connection with someone’s conscious and subconscious, you can change the world,’ ” Diaz told the Herald last fall, before the film’s premiere. “That’s the message of the movie — it really is just simply the power of art.”
Colour & Rhyme costs $5 in advance or $7 at the door. Advance tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets.
