ACT’s ‘A Christmas Carol’ opens Dec. 4
The Academy of Children’s Theatre staged a production of A Christmas Carol during its inaugural season.
So it seemed fitting to once again bring Charles Dickens’ classic Christmas tale to life during the group’s 20th anniversary year.
“We thought it would be a really great way to pay homage to ACT’s past and also Christmas tradition,” said Josh Darby, artistic director. “And it’s a fun, classic story.”
Performances are at 7 p.m. Dec.4-5 and 11-12, with 3 p.m. matinees Dec. 5, 12 and 13.
Darby adapted the script with Sandra Wilson, adding some more lighthearted touches.
He also plays one of the ghosts. Others in the cast include Clint Howell as Ebenezer Scrooge, John Davis as Bob Cratchit and Olivia Osborne as Tiny Tim.
Rachel Browning is directing, with help from student director Bianca Howell.
Darby said that the show runs the full spectrum of emotions. “It has a little bit of everything. There are some moments of laughter, of pathos and sadness. Wonderful carolers sing throughout the show. There’s a sword fight, adventure, heart,” he said. “It’s a good show to bring your family to.”
Tickets are $13 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $7 for kids under age 12. They’re available at www.academyofchildrenstheatre.org and by calling 509-943-6027.
A sign language interpreter will be on hand at the Dec. 5 matinee for the deaf and hard of hearing. ACT is at 213 Wellsian Way, Richland.
