A Nov. 21 concert will use music to explore the life and legacy of Saint Francis of Assisi.

The show, put on by Camerata Musica, will feature The Rose Ensemble, an acclaimed group from St. Paul, Minn.

It starts at 8 p.m. in the Battelle Auditorium at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland.

Born in the 12th century in Italy, Assisi eschewed a life of wealth and luxury, taking a vow of poverty and devoting himself to his faith. In a famous prayer, he asked God to “make me an instrument of thy peace,” sowing love, pardon, faith, hope, light and joy when confronted with their opposites.

The Rose Ensemble is in its 20th season. It’s known as a vocal group, although it also uses early instruments including hurdy-gurdy harp, rebec, vielle and drum, a news release said.

The group produces “imaginative and inspiring musical performances that connect each individual to compelling stories of human culture and spirituality from around the world,” a news release said.

Camerata Musica coordinates chamber music concerts in the Tri-Cities. Admission to the shows is free to the public; the group relies on donations and grants to operate.

Patrons receive priority seating.
