Haunted houses, corn mazes and more planned as Halloween approaches
Halloween is around the corner, and some spooky events are popping up around the Tri-Cities.
Some not-so-spooky fall activities also are planned for the younger or more fright-adverse.
Here’s a look:
Haunted attractions
▪ The Scaregrounds includes three separate haunts at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Kennewick.
Dates and times: 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 28-29, 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 30 and 7 p.m. to midnight Oct. 31.
Cost: $15 to check out one of the haunted houses or $30 for all three. VIP tickets are available.

▪ Malice in Wonderland at the Haunted Forest, an outdoor haunt by Pasco Jaycees at Sacajawea State Park near Pasco.
Dates and times: 7-11 p.m. Oct. 30-31.
Cost: $13 per person and children 5 and younger are admitted for free.

Trick-or-treating
▪ Historic Downtown Prosser Association is holding a free trick-or-treat event from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 30 in downtown. A “zombie walk” follows at 5 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring a donation of canned goods or warm clothes.
▪ The annual Downtown Kennewick Halloween Trick or Treat Bash is from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 31.
▪ Halloween in the Uptown is from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 31 at the Uptown Shopping Center in Richland.
▪ A Trunk-or-Treat event is planned from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at Columbia Foursquare Church, 700 Comstock St., Richland.
Corn mazes and more
▪ Middleton’s Fall Festival includes a four-acre Seahawks-themed corn maze, a smaller maze for kids, a straw bale pyramid, hay rides, a barrel train, a potato sling shot, fire pits, a petting zoo and a play area filled with 4 tons of corn kernels.
Dates and times: From 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays through Nov. 1.
Cost: Admission is $8 for ages 3 and older. A group rate is available.

▪ Richland Life Care Center’s annual Halloween Carnival is from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 30. The free, family-friendly event includes treats, carnival games and a costume parade and contest.
Richland Life Care Center is at 44 Goethals Drive.
▪ A “Haunted Tales” event is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at The Divine Fellowship, 513 Barth Ave., Richland. It will include stories of ghostly encounters. Costumes are welcome. Admission is by donation.
▪ Academy of Children’s Theatre plans a Halloween Hogwarts Party on Oct. 30. It will feature witches, wizards, beasts, goblins, ghosts and magical feasts.
Hours: 5:30-8:30 p.m. for children and families and 8:30-10 p.m. for the 19-and-older crowd.
Cost. $15 per person or $50 for a family ticket. Tickets are available at www.academyofchildrenstheatre.org.

▪ A carved pumpkin contest is planned at 10 a.m. Oct. 31 during the Pasco Farmers Market in downtown. Participants should bring a carved pumpkin. Vendors also will dress up in costumes Oct. 30 during Food Truck Friday, which runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. downtown.
▪ Tri-City Kempo Karate in Kennewick is offering a “Fighting Techniques for the Zombie Apocalypse” class from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 31. Cost is $10 per person. Advanced registration isn’t required. The class is at 516 E. First Ave., Suite D.
▪ The Princess Theatre in Prosser is holding two showings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show on Oct. 31. Times are 8 p.m. and midnight, with pre-show parties at 7 and 10:30 p.m.
Cost: $15 per person for admission to the movie, prop bags and the pre-show party.
The theater is at 1228 Meade Ave.
▪ A Hall-O-Wine costume party will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at Tucannon Cellars, 40504 Demoss Road, Benton City. More information: www.tinyurl.com/tucannonparty.
