The acclaimed Portland alternative rock duo The Helio Sequence is headlining a Sept. 18 show in Richland.

MUX is coordinating the event, which also will feature performances by the Portland band Lost Lander and Tri-City indie rockers Marceline.

Music starts at 7 p.m. at The Uptown Theatre.

Food trucks will be on hand, and a beer garden also is planned. Members of Urban Poets Society will perform in between sets.

The Helio Sequence includes Brandon Summers on guitar and vocals and Benjamin Weikel on drums and keyboards.

Formed in the 1990s, the band is signed to Seattle’s Sub Pop Records and is on tour in support of the self-titled The Helio Sequence.

It’s the group’s sixth album, and it’s something of a clean slate.

“We were coming to the studio on these sunny mornings every day with an open mind. We said, ‘I’m just going to do what feels good in the moment,’ ” Summers said in a statement. “We worked so quickly that there was a running optimism. There’s this sense of striving for perfection where you can actually take momentum away. But we wanted this record to be momentum in and of itself.”

The album is earning raves. Paste Magazine called it “euphoric” and “career-defining,” and it was hailed by Flood Magazine as “an ambitious, smart, and memorable collection of crisply produced clean-channel rock that shows all the newcomers how it’s done.”

The standout tracks include Stoic Resemblance, which shows the guys “at their most spontaneous and their most playful,” said Seattle’s KEXP.

KCRW in Santa Monica, Calif., called the tune “a hit of catchy goodness with a funky bass line with a chorus of ‘oh na na nas.’ It’s a bonafide jam.”

The $10 early bird tickets for the Sept. 18 show are sold out, but $12 advance tickets are available while supplies last.

The cost goes up to $15 the day of the show and at the door.
