Watch meteor shower May 23 at LIGO
LIGO and the Tri-City Astronomy Club invite the community to watch a meteor shower from the LIGO facility in Richland on May 23.
Doors open at 8:30 p.m. There is no admission.
"This will be the first occurrence of this particular shower, so astronomers can't speak with certainty about its quality," said Dale Ingram, the education and outreach coordinator for the observatory. "But all of the signs suggest it will be good if skies are clear."
Meteor showers are LIGO's most interesting public event. Members of the Tri-City Astronomy Club will provide telescopes for public star gazing.
"People who've never seen a meteor shower will find them memorable," Ingram added.
