Large NW rock club plans 29th annual gem show in Tri-Cities

Lakeside Gem & Mineral Club holds its 29th annual Gem Show this weekend at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Kennewick.

The event features exhibits, prizes, fossil and jewelry dealers, a game corner for kids, geode cracking and demonstrations focused on jewelry making.

The club, which started in 1953, was named for Lake Wallula, which formed when McNary Dam was built on the Columbia River. It is now one of the largest rock clubs in the Northwest, according to its website.

Show hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m., April 18, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m., April 19. The event is in Building #2, 1500 S. Oak St.

Admission is $5 cash for adults and is good for both days. Children under 14 are free with adults. No ATM is available.
