Every Friday, millions of people tune in to one of TV’s most popular true crime shows. NBC’s “Dateline” averages more than 2 million viewers per episode and has been a top show in each of its categories (including newsmagazine and true crime) for years.

Each episode covers a different case in a new location across the United States. This week’s episode features a case from Yakima County full of twists and turns.

Desiree Sunford ‘Dateline’ episode

The episode, titled “Deadly Entanglement” airs March 14 at 9 p.m. on the NBC affiliate for Tri-Cities and Yakima, KNDU/KNDO. It covers the murder case of Desiree Sunford, a Wapato Middle School art teacher who was shot to death in her home in Terrace Heights in April 2013.

“Dateline” is hosted by Lester Holt, and this week’s episode includes reporting by correspondent Blayne Alexander.

After Sunford was shot dead in an apparent break-in at her home, information came to light about an apparent “harmonious three-way affair” between Sunford, her husband and their mutual friend, as reported in the press release from NBC.

But as more was revealed, several potential motives were identified, including a hidden pregnancy, love and jealousy. The press release says “Dateline” has new evidence and testimonies casting doubt on the story.

The “Dateline” episode includes interviews with this mutual friend, Sunford’s brother and three of her friends, two former Yakima County Sheriff’s Office employees, and the convicted killer’s ex-wife.

“Deadly Entanglement” will cover the twists and turns of the killing’s unexpected outcome, in the case “loaded with secrets, sex and obsession,” according to the episode preview.
