Tournaments, Seahawks 12 Tour, pageant and gospel music set for Tri-Cities Juneteenth
Juneteenth will be celebrated in the Tri-Cities this week, with a day of fun at Kurtzman Park in Pasco, a pageant, a gospel choir celebration and a skating party.
Among the highlights will be a visit by the Seahawks 12 Tour to the fun day at the park.
Juneteenth, traditionally celebrated June 19, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States after the Civil War.
Starting this year it is a Washington state holiday, as well as a federal holiday, with employees getting Monday, June 20 off. Many offices will be closed.
Here’s what’s planned to celebrate Juneteenth in the Tri-Cities:
▪ A skating party is scheduled for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Richland Rollarena, 849 Stevens Drive.
▪ The Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Pageant will be 6 p.m. Friday at Chiawana High School, 8125 Argent Road, Pasco.
A Miss Juneteenth and also a junior princess will be picked.
Miss Juneteenth contestants are Rawan Osman of Richland; Alyssa Dunstan of Pasco; Micah Fitzgerald of Richland; Razan Osman of Richland; and Valery Murumbei of Kennewick.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the pageant, previous winners of the pageant will be on hand.
Tickets at the door cost $15 for adults, $10 for high school students and $5 for elementary and middle school students.
▪ A celebration is planned 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at Kurtzman Park, 331 S. Wehe Ave., Pasco.
The Seahawks 12 Tour, with mascot, dancers, players and DJ will be at the park from 2 to 4 p.m.
A kids area with inflatables, entertainment at The Dome, food vendors and information booths are planned.
A Dominoes and a Spades tournament is planned for adults. Cost is $10. Send information to juneteenthcouncil@yahoo.com.

▪ A Gospel celebration from 2 to about 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 19, is scheduled at Kurtzman Park, 331 S. Wehe Ave., Pasco.
A choir has been formed for the event. Food will be served. There is no cost.
