Arts in brief: ACT’s ‘Freaky Friday,’ BYU’s Vocal Point, Camerata Musica and more

Disney classic comes to ACT’s stage

The Academy of Children’s Theatre is performing a musical production of “Freaky Friday” for two weekends, bringing to life the adventures a mother and daughter experience when they magically swap bodies and have just one day to put things right.

Masquerading as each other, they must work together to solve the mystery of how to break the spell. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, both learn the true power of love and the strength of the bond between a mother and daughter.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 and 29 and at 3 p.m. on Feb. 22, 23, 29 and March 1.

Based on Broadway’s Disney musical version of “Freaky Friday,” the cast features 34 youth actors and six adults. In the lead role as Ellie is Tayler Riley, who follows in the famous footsteps of Jodie Foster and Lindsey Lohan. Playing her mother Catherine is Ann Archer. Director is Josh Darby.

Tickets are $16 for general admission, $13 for students and seniors, and $10 for kids age 12 and younger. They’re available at www. academyofchildrenstheatre.org and at the door.

Vocal Point to perform Feb. 21 in Richland

BYU’s Vocal Point performs Feb. 21 in Richland.

The concert is at 7 p.m. at Richland High School 930 Long Ave., Richland

Tickets are $15 to $40 and are available at byualumni.tix.com.

Featured on the third season of NBC’s “The Sing Off,” Vocal Point is a nationally renowned a cappella group.

“With the wide range of vocal possibilities - and seeming impossibilities - these crowd-pleasers have it all: rock, pop, country and jazz that makes their family-friendly concert a showstopper,” a news release said.

Mid-Columbia Mastersingers celebrates the right to vote

The Mid-Columbia Mastersingers will partner with the Rolling Hills Chorus of Sweet Adelines International and the League of Women Voters of Benton and Franklin Counties in a concert program, “Votes for Women: Voices for All.”

The program will celebrate women composers and poets and will commemorate the centennial anniversary of the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, giving women the right to vote.

Performances are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 and 22 at the Richland Players Theatre, 608 the Parkway, and 3 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Princess Theatre, 1228 Meade Ave, Prosser.

Tickets are $25 for general admission and free for K-12 students.

A free “Behind the Music” talk will take place 30 minutes before each concert.

Camerata Musica presents brass quintet on Feb. 22

Camerata Musica is presenting the the award-winning Axiom Brass Quintet on Feb. 22 in Pasco.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. in the theater at Columbia Basin College in Pasco.

“Internationally recognized for their groundbreaking programming, their repertoire ranges from jazz and Latin music to string quartet transcriptions, as well as original compositions for brass quintet,” a news release said.

Camerata Musica organizes chamber music concerts. Admission is free, with the group relying on sponsorships, grants donations and patrons.

Pasco City Council seeks members for new arts and culture commission

The Pasco City Council is seeking community members to volunteer for a new Arts and Culture Commission to advise the Council on matters relating to public art and culture.

Membership on the commission is divided into four categories: Community Member, Art Professsional, Artist and Youth Representative.

They are four-year terms. The youth representative term is two years. Application deadline is Feb. 28.

WrestleMania Super Show set for Feb. 16

The first ever WWE LIVE Road to WrestleMania Super Show is at the Toyota Center on Feb. 16.

Show starts at 7 p.m.

Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Baron Corbin and Charlotte Flair are among the wrestlers scheduled to take part.

Tickets start at $15 and are available through Ticketmaster and the Toyota Center box office.
