‘The Miser’ opens in Richland
The Richland Players’ production of “The Miser” opens Jan. 17.
The comedy, written by Moliere, takes place in 17th century France. It follows the story of a wealthy and unpleasant miser — Harpagon— and his children in a tale of love, money and greed.
The cast includes Deven Austin, Zack Taylor, Alyssa Nogales, Maycee McQuin, Nick Higgins, Esme Contreras, Sherry Teachout, Anjuli Rose Herr, Joe Francik, J. Spyder Isaacson, Michael Aardal, and newcomers Larry Long, Britney Nietschmann, and Jetta Peterson round out the cast.
McKenzie Kennedy is directing, and Tamara Pomponio is production manager.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Jan. 17-18, 24-25, 31 and Feb. 1 and 2 p.m. Jan. 26 and Feb. 2 at the Players theater, 608 The Parkway.
Tickets are $17 for general admission and $14 for students, seniors and military. They’re available at the theater and at www.richlandplayers.org.
Bell-ringing ceremony to honor Martin Luther King
Columbia Basin College will honor Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday with a bell-ringing ceremony.
The event is at 11 a.m. at the Martin Luther King statue on CBC’s Pasco campus, 2600 N. 20th Ave.
The statue went up about 30 years ago, only the fourth such statute approved by the King Foundation.
Speakers, music and presentation of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Spirit Award also are planned.
Camerata Musica welcomes The Carpe Diem String Quartet
Camerata Musica is presenting The Carpe Diem String Quartet and special guest Cameron Bennett for two concerts on Jan. 25 at the Performance Theatre at Columbia Basin College, 2600 N. 20th Ave. in Pasco.
The first concert at 4 p.m. is a family concert with the regular evening concert at 7:30 p.m.
This program is supported, in part, by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.
The Carpe Diem String Quartet is a boundary-breaking ensemble that has earned widespread critical acclaim with programs that includes classical, Gypsy, tango, folk, pop, rock, and jazz-inspired music.
Cameron Bennett is a piano soloist and chamber musician.
Unique among performing arts organizations, Camerata offers admission free of charge and patrons of Camerata are offered early seating. Support is provided primarily by donations from patrons.
Solve a murder for a good cause
Eastlake Tri-Cites is hosting a 1920’s Murder Mystery event on Jan. 24 to support the Union Gospel Mission.
The intrigue is 6 to 9 p.m. at the Uptown Theater, 1300 Jadwin Ave. in Richland.
Guests are invited to come in 1920s attire and enjoy food, drinks, a swing dance performance and a mystery to solve.
Tickets are $10 per person or one bag of nonperishable food, household goods or cold weather clothes. Tickets are available at the door. Children are free and a childcare area will be provided.
