The nonprofit Confluence is bringing one of its story gatherings to Richland.

The event is 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Richland Public Library, 955 Northgate Drive. It’s free and open to the public.

The gathering aims to “elevate indigenous voices in our understanding of the Columbia River system,” a news release said.

It will include video and/or audio selections of first-person narratives, plus discussion led by a panel of native elders, leaders and writers.

The panelists include Carol Craig of the Yakama Nation; Roberta (Bobbie) Conner, Tamástslikt Cultural Institute director; and Jaime A. Pinkham, executive director of the Columbia River Intertribal Fish Commission and part of the Nez Perce tribe.

Confluence is based in Vancouver, Wash. and aims to connect “people to place through art and education,” its website says.

“We work in collaboration with Northwest communities, tribes and celebrated artist Maya Lin to create reflective moments that can shape the future of the Columbia River system. We share stories of this river through six public art installations, educational programs, community engagement and a rich digital experience,” it says.
