Former Herald reporter set to release new novel in September

A former Tri-City Herald reporter has a new novel set to release in September through Mercer University Press.

Karen Spears Zacharias’ Christian Bend is the third book in her Appalachian series. A contemporary murder mystery, it “resonates with a vintage love of place while exploring the changing landscape of drugs, addiction and violence,” her website says.

Zacharias was a military kid who lost her father in Vietnam. She grew up to become a journalist; her work has appeared in outlets such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Newsweek, CNN, National Public Radio and The Huffington Post.
