Influencer Abby Howard Opens Up About Heartbreaking Miscarriage

Abby Howard is opening up about the devastating moment she learned she had lost her daughter, Emerson Nicole.

The influencer and podcast host, who shares content with her husband Matt Howard, spoke in an emotional clip about going to what began as a routine pregnancy appointment before learning there was no heartbeat.

The couple previously shared that Emerson died at about 17 weeks due to a genetic condition.

In the new clip, Howard described the shock of trying to understand what was happening in real time.

Howard said the pregnancy had felt normal before the appointment.

"Everything about that pregnancy felt perfect," she said.

She explained that she went to her 17-week appointment, when a nurse said they would take her in for an ultrasound.

"The nurse couldn't find the baby's heartbeat," Howard said. "The doctor came in. She couldn't find it either."

Howard then described seeing the baby on the ultrasound but realizing something was wrong.

"We can see our baby. It's just really still," she said. "And there's no cardiac activity at all."

She Said She Couldn't Feel the Full Weight of the News

Howard also recalled what the ultrasound tech told her. "Ultrasound tech just said to me, 'I'm so sorry. I don't have good news for you," Howard said.

The moment was so overwhelming, she said, that she could not fully process it right away. "I couldn't feel the weight of what had just happened and what she was telling me," Howard said.

Instead, she remembered asking the same question repeatedly. "What do we do now?" she said. "What do we do now? What do we do now?"

Howard also spoke about how difficult it was to understand what would happen next.

"I had no frame of reference for what it looked like at this point," she said.

She described the experience as "eerily similar to like a live birth," noting that she was in the same unit as other families who were welcoming living babies.

"You're in the same unit as everyone else that's having babies that are alive," Howard said. "There's no fetal monitoring of any kind."

She added, "It's just an experience that you wouldn't wish on anyone."

Abby and Matt Howard Previously Shared Emerson's Story

Howard and her husband Matt publicly shared the loss of their daughter in September 2025. The couple later revealed that they named her Emerson Nicole, a name that carried personal meaning for their family.

The Howards, who are also parents to sons Griffin and August, have continued to speak about grief, pregnancy loss and life after losing Emerson. In March 2026, they shared that they were expecting again, calling the baby their rainbow baby.

Her Story Resonated With Parents Who Know That Grief

Her words give space to an experience many families go through privately. Pregnancy loss can come with grief, trauma and a sense of leaving the hospital without the future a parent had been preparing for.

For Howard, the memory of that day remains tied to Emerson.

"I felt like I left one of my babies behind," she said.
