SAW: Genesis Brings Jigsaw's Deadly Games Back as a New Multiplayer Horror Experience

The Saw franchise has inspired fear and fascination for more than two decades through its elaborate traps, impossible choices, and twisted philosophy of survival. Now the series is making its return to video games with SAW: Genesis, a newly announced multiplayer horror title that takes players into a brutal contest of survival inspired by the world of Jigsaw.

Revealed during Summer Game Fest 2026, SAW: Genesis is being published by Bloober Team, the studio that recently gained widespread acclaim for its work on the Silent Hill 2 remake. Rather than following the single player approach of previous Saw games, this new project is built around asymmetrical multiplayer gameplay where players take on opposing roles in a deadly game of judgment and survival.

SAW: Genesis is a 3 versus 1 multiplayer experience. One player assumes the role of the Judge, a mysterious figure described as a precursor to Jigsaw, while three others play as the Accused. The goal of the Accused is to work together and escape a maze filled with traps, pressure, and life threatening challenges. Meanwhile, the Judge manipulates events from the shadows, using strategy and preparation rather than direct combat.

The game's setting also distinguishes it from much of the Saw franchise. Rather than taking place during the era of John Kramer, the story unfolds in the aftermath of World War I. This historical backdrop introduces a new chapter in the franchise's mythology while exploring the origins of ideas that would later become associated with Jigsaw's infamous games.

A Different Kind of Horror Villain

In many asymmetrical horror games, the villain is physically dominant and hunts survivors directly. SAW: Genesis takes a different approach: The Judge is physically vulnerable and cannot simply overpower opponents through force. Instead, success depends on carefully placed traps, environmental manipulation, and psychological pressure. The role focuses on planning and control rather than direct confrontation.

For the Accused, survival requires cooperation. Players must search for clues, solve puzzles, and navigate procedurally generated environments while avoiding the dangers created by the Judge. This structure is intended to recreate the tension and impossible decisions that have defined the Saw films since the series began.

SAW: Genesis represents the franchise's biggest return to gaming in years. By combining asymmetrical multiplayer design with the psychological horror, traps, and moral dilemmas that made the films famous, the game aims to offer a fresh interpretation of the Saw formula. Whether players become the Judge or fight for survival as one of the Accused, the central question remains the same as it always has in the world of Saw: how far are you willing to go to survive?
