'Masters of the Universe': Where else to watch He-Man in film, TV
June 5 (UPI) --Masters of the Universe, a new live-action film adaptation of the Mattel franchise, opens in theaters Friday.
The movie is directed by Travis Knight (Bumblebee) and stars Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue) as Adam Glenn, aka He-Man, a prince trying to defend Castle Grayskull and the planet of Eternia from the evil Skeletor (Jared Leto).
Also starring Camila Mendes as Teela, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Idris Elba as Duncan, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson as Malcolm and Kristen Wiig as the voice of Roboto, Masters of the Universe is the latest project to adapt the franchise for the screen.

'The Secret of the Sword'
The 1985 animated feature from Filmation was the Masters of the Universe franchise's first film released in theaters.
Featuring the voices of John Erwin as Prince Adam, aka He-Man, Melendy Britt as Princess Adora, aka She-Ra, Alan Oppenheimer as Skeletor and Linda Gary as Teela, the movie follows He-Man as he searches for the person who can wield the magical Sword of Protection.
The Secret of the Sword is available to stream on YouTube.
'Masters of the Universe'
The 1987 live-action film cast Dolph Lundgren in the lead role of He-Man following the actor's breakout role as Ivan Drago in Rocky IV.
Other cast members include Frank Langella as Skeletor, Meg Foster as Evil-lyn, Chelsea Field as Teela, and a young Courteney Cox as Julie, a teenager who comes across the magical Cosmic Key.
The movie brings the action to Earth, where He-Man and his allies join forces with Julie and her friend Kevin (Robert Duncan McNeill) to keep Skeletor from obtaining the key.
Masters of the Universe is available to stream on YouTube and Tubi.
'He-Man and the Masters of the Universe'
The popular animated series from Filmation aired for two seasons from 1983 to 1984 and inspired The Secret of the Sword and a spinoff series, She-Ra: Princess of Power.
The show marked the debut of Erwin, Oppenheimer and Gary as the voices of He-Man, Skeletor and Teela, and follows He-Man as he defends Castle Grayskull and Eternia from Skeletor.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is available to stream on Prime Video, Tubi and the Roku Channel.
'The New Adventures of He-Man'
The 1990 animated series switches up the setting to follow He-Man as defends the futuristic planet of Primus from Skeletor and the evil Mutants of Denebria.
The voice cast includes Garry Chalk as He-Man and Campbell Lane as Skeletor, with Alvin Sanders as Flogg, the leader of the Mutants.
The New Adventures of He-Man is available to rent on Prime Video and YouTube.
'He-Man and the Masters of the Universe'
The animated series from Mike Young Productions aired for two seasons on Cartoon Network from 2002 to 2004. The show marked the franchise's return to television after more than a decade.
The series follows Prince Adam as discovers his powers as He-Man and becomes the defender of Castle Grayskull and Eternia.
Cam Clarke voices He-Man, with Brian Dobson as Skeletor, Kathleen Barr as Evil-lyn and Lisa Ann Beley as Teela.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is available to stream on Prime Video and Plex.
'Masters of the Universe: Revelation' and 'Revolution'
Revelation is a two-part 2021 animated series from Mattel Television and Powerhouse Animation Studios that Netflix that serves as a "spiritual sequel" to the original He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
The star-studded voice cast includes Chris Wood as He-Man, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela and Lena Headey as Evil-lyn.
Intended for an adult audience, Revelation centers on Teela and her quest to reunite the guardians of Grayskull and restore the Sword of Power.
Revolution, released in 2024 and featuring Melissa Benoist as Teela, focuses on He-Man's conflict with Motherboard (Meg Foster) and the Horde. Both Revelation and Revolution are available to stream on Netflix.
'He-Man and the Masters of the Universe'
The CG-animated series from Mattel Television also premiered on Netflix in 2021 and ran for three seasons.
Intended to introduce the franchise to a new generation of young people, the show serves as a reimagining of the 1983 series and follows Prince Adam as he becomes He-Man.
