This Grammy-Winning Musician Just Announced Her First Album in Seven Years

Sara Bareilles fans won't have to wait much longer for new music.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, 46, has announced Good Grief, her first studio album in seven years, set for release on Aug. 28.

Along with the album news, Bareilles also unveiled its lead single, "Home," giving listeners their first glimpse into what she describes as a deeply personal new chapter.

The album marks Bareilles' first full-length studio release since 2019's Amidst the Chaos, which earned her a Grammy Award. According to the singer, the new collection explores themes of loss, healing and hope.

"This whole collection of songs felt like transmissions rather than a deliberate attempt to make sense of the world," Bareilles said in a statement. "My deepest hope is that Good Grief provides some kind of comfort or catharsis."

The 14-track album was inspired by experiences both personal and universal, ranging from tributes to loved ones who have passed away to songs centered on resilience, connection and finding light during difficult moments.

The project's first single, "Home," was inspired by a conversation between Stephen Colbert and Anderson Cooper about grief and loss. Bareilles described the song as an invitation into the emotional themes that run throughout the record.

The album announcement comes with another piece of welcome news for fans: Bareilles is heading back on tour.

The singer will launch the Good Grief Tour on Sept. 9 in Boston before making stops in major cities across North America, including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. The tour will mark her first major run of live performances in years and is expected to feature both new material and fan favorites from throughout her career.

Adding to what is already shaping up to be a major year, Bareilles will also debut a new documentary, Sara Bareilles: Good Grief, at the Tribeca Festival this week.

The film follows the making of the album and offers an intimate look at her return to the recording studio after a lengthy hiatus.
