Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve Marks the Return of Bandai Namco's Legendary Flight Series
It has been several years since Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown brought the long running aerial combat franchise back into the spotlight. Now, Bandai Namco is preparing to continue the series with Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, a new installment that promises a larger story, expanded multiplayer features, and the fast paced dogfights the franchise is known for.
Developed by Bandai Namco Aces, also known as PROJECT ACES, Ace Combat 8 places players in the cockpit of an elite pilot tasked with surviving intense military conflicts across the skies of the series' fictional world. According to the official Steam page, the game combines arcade style aerial combat with a story driven campaign centered on high stakes missions, difficult decisions, and relationships formed between squad members during wartime.
The campaign appears to place a much greater emphasis on the pilot behind the aircraft. While the series has always featured extensive military narratives, Bandai Namco's description highlights first person scenes and cinematic storytelling that explore the pressures of command, the consequences of wartime choices, and the bonds that develop between members of a squadron.
Living Skies and Large Scale Dogfights
As in previous entries, players will engage enemy aircraft using a variety of weapons while completing mission objectives across large battlefields. The game's reveal materials consistently highlight dramatic dogfights, cinematic action sequences, and visually detailed aircraft rendered with modern hardware in mind.
Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is currently scheduled to launch on October 1, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. As the first mainline entry since Ace Combat 7, it represents a major milestone for a franchise that recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. With a new war, a new ace, and a renewed focus on both story and multiplayer, Wings of Theve is shaping up to be one of the biggest releases in the series' history.
