'90s Country-Rock Band Announces Exciting First-Ever Move
Wilco is heading out on the road, and this time, they're hitting a location they never have before-in fact, a whole new continent: Africa. The country-rock band announced their first-ever shows in Morocco on Tuesday, June 2, and it'll be their headline debut in the destination.
Slated for spring 2027, the shows will take place from March 25 to 27. "For the first time in their career, Wilco announces performances in Africa. Wilco (In Morocco) is more than just a concert, it's an immersion into Moroccan culture and the city of Marrakech headlined by Wilco," a press release shared directly with Parade described. "Drawing attendees from around the world, Wilco will perform three completely unique nights of music, with no repeats throughout the weekend."
As announced, fans will be in for a treat with the experience, as no two nights will be the same - The band is ready to perform "three completely unique sets" across the featured dates. The programming, which is a partnership with Pilgrimage of Sound, follows three sold-out nights in Iceland in 2023.
To make it even more special, multi-day tours are being offered pre and post show, ranging from 3 days to 16 days to truly experience everything Morocco has to offer. "A completely custom experience, guests have the opportunity for the tours to begin and end in different parts of the country so they can base their decisions upon their travel itineraries," the press release explained.
Presale registration begins on June 2 at 12 PM CST at www.wilcoinmorocco.com, with general sale opening on Friday, June 12 at 12 PM CST.
Comprising Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Glenn Kotche, Pat Sansone, Nels Cline, and Mikael Jorgensen, Wilco was first formed in 1994 in Chicago by the remaining members of alternative country group Uncle Tupelo. The band has since released 13 studio albums and earned two Grammy awards. Their most recent album, 2023's Cousin, was followed by 2024's Hot Sun Cool Shroud EP.
"To see Wilco on stage is to hear the best of the best," NPR once famously published. "Wilco never makes the same record twice, which makes it doubly remarkable that so many of them are tremendous."
