Now, 46 years later and 16 since their last studio album, Reilly and company have returned. Their new album, Renascent, is due on July 31. The band is previewing it with the track "Liars," which is available now on streaming platforms.

On the new set, Reilly is joined by longtime drummer/percussionist Bruce Mitchell and multi-instrumentalist/producer Keir Stewart.

In their early days, the Durutti Column made a name for themselves by combining traditional jazz, folk and classic influences with electronic dance music and samples. The band has undergone multiple lineup changes over the years and at one point was basically a Reilly solo project. Former Joy Division/New Order bassist Peter Hook played bass and performed live with the band for a stint, while Reilly played on fellow Manchurian Morrissey's 1988 solo debut, Viva Hate.

The band's influence continues to this day with Harry Styles recently citing the Durutti Column as a major influence on his new album Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally, while Blood Orange's "The Field" includes a sample of the band's "Sing to Me."

Styles is also paying honoring the band at this year's Meltdown Festival, which he is curating. A special live event, For Vini: A Tribute to The Durutti Column will be staged on June 17 in London. Stewart is set to perform with Durutti Column contributors Liz Rossi (violin, piano), Caoilfhionn Rose (vocals, piano) and Sam Morris (French Horn) as they perform material from the band's 46-year career.

Renascent will be released in multiple formats including digital, CD, transparent yellow vinyl, a deluxe LP, a special boxed edition LP with a DVD featuring visualizers for each track, and a limited-edition cassette.

"From the moment we're born we're never ever instigative, only ever reactive. It's like Newton's law of motion, if you're not pushing against anything, you lose momentum," Reilly said of the new album in a statement.

The band's last album, Short Stories for Pauline, was released in 2012. In 2010, the band released A Paean to Wilson, dedicated to Reilly's friend and Factory co-founder Tony Wilson.
