Iconic '70s Rockers Release New Music Featuring Original Lead Singer
Foreigner is officially bringing original lead singer Lou Gramm back into the fold as part of the band's massive 50th anniversary celebration.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame group has now opened pre-orders for its upcoming live album In the Eye of the Storm, due out July 24 via Green Hill/Sun Label Group. The project serves as the official soundtrack to the band's upcoming 50th anniversary concert film, filmed at Ellis Island and Brooklyn's DUMBO House.
The rollout also includes newly released music featuring Gramm alongside longtime Foreigner frontman Kelly Hansen and current lead vocalist Luis Maldonado, bringing together three generations of the band's frontmen for the first time.
Among the featured tracks is a newly recorded live version of "Feels Like the First Time," which debuted alongside footage from the anniversary concert film earlier this spring.
The historic Ellis Island performance nearly never happened.
According to the announcement, severe rain, thunder and lightning swept across New York Harbor as the band prepared to perform, threatening to cancel the production entirely. Instead, Foreigner pushed ahead with what organizers later described as one of the most electrifying performances of the band's 50-year career.
The anniversary project will also include a theatrical concert film produced by Vertigo Live Productions, scheduled for worldwide release later this summer.
Fans will additionally have an opportunity to purchase signed vinyl and CD editions through a special TalkShopLive livestream event featuring Gramm and bassist Jeff Pilson and on July 8.
Foreigner originally formed in 1976 and went on to become one of classic rock's defining arena acts with hits including "Cold as Ice," "Hot Blooded," "Urgent," "Juke Box Hero" and "I Want to Know What Love Is."
The band has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide and remains one of the most commercially successful rock groups of its era.
Nearly 50 years after the band first emerged, Foreigner is now turning its anniversary celebration into a full-scale reunion between multiple generations of the group's history.
