'Sons of Anarchy' Star Looks Wildly Different in Rare Appearance and Fans Are Shocked

Fans are doing double takes over Charlie Hunnam's latest public appearance.

The former star was spotted in Los Angeles this week looking-what many are considering-dramatically different from the rugged biker image many some still associate him with more than a decade after Sons of Anarchy ended.

Hunam, 46, appeared at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Conversations event on Friday, May 22, to promote his upcoming role in the project, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. Sporting slightly graying hair, a noticeably cleaner-cut appearance, and a far more polished style, the actor looked worlds away from Jax Teller.

"Yay!! We haven't seen new pics of him in a while!" one excited fan noted on Instagram.

"Love him with less facial hair..the bit of grey making him look very distinguished. ❤️," shared another.

A third said, "Oh my heart he is looking so good 😍🥹🫠♥️ Yeah he looks a bit tired, but he is fully entitled to,he is only human like the rest of us."

However, some weren't sold on the new look, with one fan commenting, "Charlie looks better with the beard and shorter hair."

In Season 4 of Monster, Gein is set to play Lizzie Borden's father, Andrew Jackson Borden. The role comes after he starred in the third season of the Netflix series, Monster: The Ed Gein Story.

Speaking to Interview magazine in 2025 about portraying serial killer Ed Gein in the series, Hunnam admitted the role initially intimidated him because of how emotionally heavy it felt.

"I think I read every book written on Ed Gein, and it started to become impossibly bleak to me," the actor explained. "I really wanted to challenge myself in my career at this point in life, and this seemed like a golden opportunity to play a type of character I've never played before."

Hunnam has kept a relatively low profile in recent years despite remaining a fan favorite. But earlier this year, the actor also turned heads during a rare appearance at Paris Fashion Week, where he attended the Saint Laurent Menswear runway show wearing a sleek satin olive-green shirt, navy trousers, and a dark trench coat-another far cry from his motorcycle-cut days.
