'80s-Inspired Netflix Series With Killer Classic Rock Soundtrack Poised to Be the Next Mega-Hit
They say The Boroughs is where "you'll have the time of your life." They just don't tell you what comes after. For the group checking into a mysterious retirement community in New Mexico, they think they're embarking on the final chapters of their lives. But really, it's only the beginning.
A supernatural adventure series inspired by the Amblinmovies of the '80s (think Steven Spielberg's Goonies and Ron Howard's Cocoon), the series is a mix of humor, emotional drama, and sci-fi intrigue. And it's poised to become Netflix's next mega-hit.
"While a Netflix show going for Steven Spielberg vibes understandably makes one think of Stranger Things - the Duffer Brothers even serve as executive producers here - The Boroughs isn't merely Stranger Things with old people instead of kids," IGN wrote on social media.
Starring the emotional weight and gravitas of Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, and Bill Pullman, the show has a ton of star power behind the camera, too. Namely, the guys behind The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance - Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews - as well as Stranger Things alums Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, better known as the Duffer Brothers.
Another aspect that has viewers hyped is the classic rock soundtrack. Featuring '80s legends like Bruce Springsteen, Heart, Santana, Tina Turner, and more, viewers are in for a sonic experience that taps into nostalgia in the best way. Here's hoping we get another "Running Up That Hill"-style needle-drop moment.
The 21-track digital edition of the soundtrack drops Friday, May 21, while CD and vinyl editions will be released June 19.
