Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms He's Set to Film 'Fantastic' Sequel to 'Conan the Barbarian' in 2027: 'I Am Excited About It'

Arnold Schwarzenegger's reign as Conan the Barbarian King is far from over, with the 78-year-old actor recently sharing the news that he's set to film a long-awaited sequel to the series beginning in 2027.

Speaking with the TheArnoldFans, Schwarzenegger revealed the plan to begin shooting the sequel, titled King Conan, in the immediate near future.

"Next year we are going to do King Conan," Schwarzenegger said. "That is a reality now and I am excited about it."

As viewers might readily remember, Conan famously helped put Schwarzenegger on the map within the larger annals of pop culture, establishing him as a household name alongside similarly memorable titles like Commando and (most famously) the Terminator series.

While it's been just over 40 years since Schwarzenegger wielded the dramatically oversized sword of his fantasy character, the actor maintains that he has long hoped for a sequel to the Conan franchise for roughly a decade.

"For the last ten years I have been saying, 'We should do King Conan and we should get a great script written, get someone who really understands [author] Robert E. Howard, that understands the artwork of Frank Frazetta and to continue on,'" he said, referencing Conan's original characters. "I want to have John Milius, the director of Conan [the Barbarian], to be maybe the producer. So it will be really fantastic."

As for what viewers might expect of the highly anticipated new sequel, Schwarzenegger said the lengthy wait in between films actually worked in his favor, allowing him to portray an older version of the character who is far past his prime.

"He is no longer in the shape he was from his heyday and now people are trying to take him out," Schwarzenegger shared. "He's the king and he gets a little bit complacent. He's tired of the job and he wants to move on."
