This Surprise Disney Partnership Could Completely Change Your Family's Christmas Tradition

Christmas may still be months away, but one of the biggest holiday brands in America is already making major moves.

The Elf on the Shelf is officially partnering with Disney in the company's first-ever inbound licensing collaboration, Parade can exclusively reveal. While The Lumistella Company (the brand behind the wildly popular Christmas tradition) has spent years licensing out its own intellectual property, it has never before partnered with another entertainment giant in this way.

Now, that's changing with an all-new Disney x The Elf on the Shelf collection arriving this fall.

The collaboration will feature four major Disney franchises: Mickey Mouse & Friends, Frozen's Olaf, Disney Princesses and Spider-Man, all reimagined through the whimsical world of Scout Elves. The collection will include themed outfits, props, accessories, kits and carriers priced between $12.95 and $25.95.

Pre-sales will begin on Amazon in mid-July before the collection launches Sept. 15 on The Santa Store and later rolls out to major retailers including Target, Walmart, CVS and Michael's.

According to Lumistella co-CEO and co-founder Chanda Bell, the collaboration was inspired by years of seeing families personalize their elves around the characters their kids already loved.

"Our original story that just celebrated its 20th anniversary, The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition, will always be the North Star of our storytelling," Bell told Parade exclusively.

"But that original tale is what allows for a collaboration like this."

Rather than introducing entirely new stories or books, the Disney additions are designed to expand how families interact with their existing elves during the holiday season."

"This first-of-its-kind collaboration will help families celebrate the holidays with their elf being a fan of exactly what they are a fan of," Bell explained.

"So whether it's a hanging Spider-Man-themed elf or a Disney Princess in training, these clothes, props, kits and carriers will fuel the fun of the tradition."

The idea reportedly evolved after Lumistella noticed fans creating their own Disney-inspired elf scenes at home, from homemade Mickey ears to elaborate themed setups tied to favorite movies and TV shows.

"Our goal was to collaborate with iconic, beloved brands and marry our fandoms in an authentic way," co-CEO and co-founder Christa Pitts said.

"We wanted brands who, like us, dedicate themselves to creating joyful family moments."

Pitts added that Disney felt like a natural fit because many families were already incorporating Disney fandom into their Elf on the Shelf traditions, sometimes even using Scout Elves to surprise children with Disney Parks vacations.

As for why those particular Disney characters made the cut?

"We worked closely with Disney to find just the right brands to launch our collection with, which of course had to start with the icons, Mickey and Minnie," Pitts said.

"Olaf was a natural fit for the holidays, and the Disney Princesses and Spider-Man have some of the largest fandoms among kids today."

And this may only be the beginning.

"We hope to continue to add more characters and stories in the coming years," Pitts teased.
