Charlize Theron Faces Backlash Over Comments She Made About Her Kids' Finances

Celebrity mom Charlize Theron made a pretty controversial statement recently, and fans are divided. While on the Therapuss with Jake Shane podcast, the mom of two shared her views on parenting, finances, and independence.

Unlike other Hollywood royalty, Theron's kiddos won't automatically get a luxury SUV wrapped in a pretty red ribbon when they turn 16. The Academy Award winner adopted two children: Jackson (in 2012) and August (in 2015). So, what type of car will the actress buy for her brood? Theron revealed to Shane, "First of all, your first car is going to be a Datsun because you're going to crash it."

Theron continued, "You're a new driver. So, we're not getting like, the nice car up front. We need a little bit of experience, and we're going to earn it." The conversation eventually turned from cars to jobs, with Theron adding, "They just need to get a job that pays them because I don't want to support them for the rest of life."

The online entertainment community lit up after hearing Theron's somewhat controversial statements. After all, according to IMDb, the actress is worth an estimated $200 million. So yeah, we can see how a discontinued brand like Datsun may not exactly make sense.

So, what did fans have to say? Redditors jumped online to voice their opinions. One wrote, "I'm sure she'll open doors," while another pointed out, "Most of the rich say that, and then change their mind later."

Another commenter added, "They think this makes them look good. I mean, what else are they gonna say? ‘I'm crazy rich, why would they need to get jobs?' I mean, it's true but it looks bad. I would teach them to be great with money and how to use it well and how to help others with it the best way possible."

Of course, some people took a different view of Theron's statements. "Wild that she says she wants her kids to have jobs and basic cars, yet somehow even that's a controversial opinion. This is why I understand when some celebrities can't be bothered to talk to the press or meet fans. They can't win no matter what they say." But that wasn't the only fan who backed up the celeb mama. Another wrote, "She told her kids to get a job and people are still complaining and are furious in the comments, lol."
