Splatoon Raiders Release Date And Gameplay Details For Nintendo Switch 2

The long-running ink-based shooter series takes a different direction with Splatoon Raiders, a standalone spin-off that shifts the focus away from competitive multiplayer and into a more structured, story-driven experience. Developed and published by Nintendo, the game is set to launch on July 23, 2026 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, marking the franchise's first dedicated spin-off entry.

Unlike the mainline entries that revolve around online matches, Splatoon Raiders is built primarily as a single-player adventure. Players take on the role of a mechanic who teams up with Deep Cut, the trio introduced in Splatoon 3, and travels to the mysterious Spirhalite Islands. The premise revolves around exploration and treasure hunting, with players venturing into hostile territory to gather resources and uncover the secrets of the islands.

A Shift Toward Exploration And Progression

The gameplay loop in Splatoon Raiders centers on raiding different locations, defeating enemies, and extracting valuable loot. The enemies, known as Salmonids, return from previous entries but are now integrated into a more structured progression system rather than competitive modes. Each expedition feeds back into a broader progression loop, where collected materials can be used to upgrade equipment and improve future runs.

Customization plays a key role in this system. Players can modify their character, equip ink-based weapons, and use mechanical gadgets to approach encounters in different ways. The presence of an Exploration Bot companion, controlled by members of Deep Cut, adds another layer to combat and resource gathering, reinforcing the game's hybrid structure between action shooter and light RPG systems.

This progression-focused design suggests a shift toward a more contained and repeatable gameplay loop, closer to mission-based or raid-style experiences rather than the open-ended competitive matches the series is known for.

Solo Focus With Optional Co Op

Although Splatoon Raiders is primarily designed as a single-player experience, it still includes cooperative functionality. Players can team up with up to three others either online or locally, allowing groups to tackle raids together. This hybrid approach maintains some of the social elements of the series while keeping the core structure centered on individual progression and narrative.

The inclusion of co-op also adds flexibility, letting players choose between a more controlled solo experience or a collaborative approach that may make difficult encounters more manageable.

A New Direction For The Splatoon Series

Splatoon Raiders represents a notable shift for the franchise. By moving away from competitive multiplayer and focusing on exploration, upgrades, and story-driven progression, it expands what a Splatoon game can be. The setting of the Spirhalite Islands, combined with its treasure-hunting structure, gives the game a different tone compared to previous entries.

While it retains the colorful style and ink-based combat that define the series, the emphasis on solo play and structured progression sets it apart. As the first spin-off in the franchise, Splatoon Raiders serves as both an experiment and an expansion, offering a new way to engage with the Splatoon universe when it launches in July 2026.
