Eminem Celebrates 18 Year Anniversary of Major Life Change

Eminem has a lot to celebrate!

Days after becoming a grandfather for the second time, the beloved rapper celebrated his 18-year sobriety anniversary.

"XVIII🏅" the "Lose Yourself" artist captioned an Instagram announcement on Monday, April 20.

Eminem - real name Marshall Mathers - shared the news alongside a photo of his 18-year Alcoholics Anonymous sobriety coin.

Mathers previously revealed his decision to get sober after a near-fatal overdose in 2007.

"The numbers got so high, I don't even know what I was taking," he told VIBE magazine of his 20 Vicodin, Ambien and Valium a day habit. "My doctor told me the amount of methadone I'd taken was equivalent to shooting up four bags of heroin. I probably wouldn't have taken it. But as bad as I was back then, I can't even say 100 percent for sure."

After accepting that he had an addiction, the "Without Me" rapper was able to see patterns within his family.

"It never once hit me that drug addiction runs in my family. Now that I understand that I'm an addict, I definitely have compassion for my mother," he said. "I get it."
