Country Star Breaks Silence on Traumatic Injury, Announces Rescheduled Tour Dates

Billy Strings is speaking out about the major injury he suffered on April 18 off-stage that forced him to cancel his encore at his show at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Va.

As a result of the injury, Strings revealed in an Instagram post on April 20 that he's been forced to reschedule the four remaining April dates on his tour to August.

"Well, can't say y'all didn't warn me about screwing around on my skateboard!! Saturday night I walked off stage right before the encore I was all zazzed up from a really fun show. I grabbed my board and tried to do a trick I've done a million times (back 180) and landed awkwardly and broke my leg. I heard it snap over the screaming crowd!! Sounded like a damn 2x4," Strings wrote in the caption of the post that features a carousel of photos related to the injury.

In the first photo, Strings is seen in a hospital bed giving a thumb's down sign. The carousel also includes five x-rays, showing his broken leg along with x-rays of the screws and bracket doctors inserted into his leg to mend the broken bone. The post also includes a photo of Strings in a hospital bed with a cast up to the knee on his left leg.

"It's been an interesting couple days to say the least complete with the most extreme pain and crazy ketamine trips and operations stuff but the staff here at UVA rules. They screwed me all back together. They are absolute angels on Earth," Strings added in his post.

The guitar virtuoso also revealed that initially he wanted to continue the tour, even if it meant performing seated, as Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl did in 2015 after he broke his leg falling off the stage in Gothenburg, Sweden.

"I had every intention of carrying on with the tour and Dave Grohling it. He even texted me and offered me the throne! I really don't want to let anybody down, but after some long talks with these doctors, my friends, band and colleagues, my wife etc.. I should probably let this thing heal. I don't believe that I could give you guys the show you deserve coming right out of this surgery and these first few days are really important as far as keeping this thing elevated and letting it heal. Plus I'm all messed up on pain killers and stuff," Strings added.

Strings ended the post by taking full responsibility for the accident along with posting the rescheduled dates for the remaining shows on his tour.

"It's a dumb ass mistake and it's all my fault .. I feel like such an idiot. But what are ya gonna do , ya know? At least I didn't hit my head or break my wrist or something," he wrote.

Strings' April 22 show in Charleston, W.V. has been rescheduled for Aug. 4, while his April 24-26 shows in Fishers, Ind. are now set for Aug. 6-8.
