Necrophosis Full Consciousness Release Date And Gameplay Details For PS5 And Xbox Series X|S

The psychological horror title Necrophosis: Full Consciousness is set to arrive on consoles on May 28, 2026, bringing its unsettling vision of cosmic dread to both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S. Developed by Dragonis Games and published by PQube, this release represents the complete edition of the experience, bundling the base game with additional content under a single package.

Necrophosis: Full Consciousness builds on the foundation of the original Necrophosis, expanding its themes and scope into a more comprehensive version designed specifically for modern consoles. The game embraces a first-person perspective, placing players inside a surreal, decaying world shaped by Lovecraftian horror and existential storytelling.

A Horror Experience Without Combat

One of the most defining aspects of Necrophosis is its complete rejection of traditional combat systems. Unlike most entries in the genre, the game removes weapons entirely, focusing instead on vulnerability and immersion. This design choice reinforces the central theme of confronting incomprehensible entities rather than fighting them.

Players take on the role of a being known as Consciousness, trapped within a deteriorating physical form and navigating environments consumed by decay. The experience unfolds through exploration, environmental storytelling, and puzzle solving. Instead of relying on action, tension is built through atmosphere, sound design, and the disturbing presence of otherworldly creatures.

Creative director Ares Dragonis has emphasized that this approach is intentional, aiming to create a horror experience centered on psychological unease rather than survival mechanics. The result is a slower, more introspective style of gameplay where every interaction contributes to a broader sense of dread.

Surreal Art Direction And Expanded Content

The visual identity of Necrophosis: Full Consciousness is heavily influenced by the work of Zdzisław Beksiński, whose surreal and often disturbing imagery informs the game's environments. The world is constructed from hundreds of handcrafted assets, creating landscapes that blend organic decay with dreamlike structures.

The console release includes the Subconsciousness downloadable content, which expands the narrative by shifting perspective. In this additional chapter, players explore new areas and uncover deeper layers of the story through poetic narration integrated directly into gameplay elements. This approach reinforces the game's focus on abstract storytelling, where meaning is often implied rather than explicitly stated.

Exploration is driven by the collection of narrative fragments, often presented as pieces of poetry scattered throughout the environment. These elements gradually reveal the lore of a world overtaken by rot and cosmic forces, encouraging players to piece together the story at their own pace.

Necrophosis: Full Consciousness also stands as the most ambitious project from Dragonis Games to date, following earlier releases like The Shore. The physical PlayStation 5 edition goes a step further by including The Shore as a bonus, offering additional context for players interested in the studio's previous work.

With its focus on atmosphere, surreal visuals, and non-traditional gameplay, Necrophosis: Full Consciousness aims to deliver a distinct horror experience when it launches on May 28, 2026.
