Tri-City choir will perform with ‘Hot Blooded’ classic rockers at Toyota Center concert
A Southridge High School choir will take the stage at Toyota Center on Wednesday, Oct. 16, to perform a special rendition of “I Want to Know What Love Is” alongside Foreigner, the classic rock band that penned the beloved 1980’s power ballad.
The British-American band also plans to donate $500 to the Tri-City high school’s choir program. Southridge joins an exclusive list of choirs that have collabed with the band in recent months during live performances, highlighting the arts and talents of youth in small communities.
“All our students in chamber choir are super excited for this opportunity to perform with such a great group,” said Laurie Evans, the school’s director of choirs. “I personally had the opportunity to perform with Foreigner in 2019 and I am so lucky to provide this opportunity to all our chamber students.”
After a chart-topping, 50+ year career that culminated in this year’s induction into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, Foreigner are pumping the brakes on live shows. This year’s run of U.S. dates — billed as an extension to last year’s “Historic Farewell Tour” — could be the last time the band does any extensive touring. They still plan to play the occasional show.
Last year proved to be the most successful since founder Mick Jones reformed the band in 2004 with the addition of vocalist Kelly Hansen. But the band announced in 2022 that they’ll be “hanging it up and retiring on a high note” at the end of this year, a press manager for the band said.
Foreigner’s albums have sold more than 80 million copies. The band has 9 Top 10 hits including “Waiting for A Girl Like You,” “Urgent,” “Double Vision,” “Say You Will” and “Hot Blooded.”
The “Juke Box Hero” hit makers garner nearly 2 million weekly streams on music streaming service Spotify, and have accumulated more than 400 million views on YouTube. Their hits regularly receive more airtime than their contemporaries, including Bruce Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac, and Jones was inducted into the 2013 Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Tickets are on sale now for their Oct. 16 appearance in the Tri-Cities. Tickets start at $57. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
Foreigner will be inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday, Oct. 19, during an event in Cleveland, Ohio. The ceremony will be streamed live on Disney+ and available on Hulu the following day. An edited form will air on ABC at a later date.
