2020 Best Weathercaster: Tim Adams
It only seems fitting that Tim Adams is named the Best Weathercaster for the 2020 People’s Choice awards.
After all, Adams – who works at KNDU NBC Right Now – won the category for the first six years before losing to KEPR’s Mike McCabe in 2019.
But this is it for Adams, who plans to retire this year.
“This is incredible,” said Adams with enthusiasm. “There are so many young, articulate, easy-on-the-eyes people out there in this business.”
But it’s that enthusiasm – and that constant smile – that Adams has that draws viewers to him.
“That camera is your best friend,” Adams said. “What really gets me is the feeling that I’m connecting with the camera, and today you get instant feedback (with social media). I get people who say they really did think I was talking to them, which is great, because I am talking to them.”
He enjoys the banter with viewers.
“I love it when people say ‘Tim what’s it going to be like for Hydro weekend? Or ‘No Tim, no thunderstorms this coming weekend. My wedding is Saturday,’” he said. “To get (the forecast) right is the ultimate.”
But after being in radio or television since 1977, Adams feels like it’s time to slow down and enjoy life with his wife Dorothy and the couple’s combined seven children and their families.
Adams, though, appreciates what he’s had in the weather business.
“I’m just so dang lucky to have worked with such fine people. I’ve never been around such a great team as this one. And to get to do it for my swan song is incredible,” he said.
For Adams, being a weather forecaster has been an avocation.
“Talking about the weather,” he says, “isn’t work to me.”
