2017 Best Sandwich Shop: Graze
John and Becca Lastoskie left California in their VW van on a two month journey with their young child and dog. Their goal: open a food business since they both liked to cook for fun. Although Portland, Seattle and Bend were all viable options, they settled in Walla Walla’s wine country and opened Graze Catering. John said the name Graze came from the couple venturing out in the evenings to sometimes five different places, starting with an appetizer at one spot and ending with dessert at another place.
The catering business began weighing heavily on family time, so they moved from catering to Graze sandwich shop in 2009. Graze is known for its smorgasbord of flavors and fresh ingredients comprised into yummy and affordable sandwiches.
In 2014 the couple wanted to grow the business. Setting their eyes on the Tri-Cities, they opened the Kennewick restaurant in 2014 and one in Richland in 2015.
The Lastoskies are true sandwich designers. Two of Graze’s more popular menu items are the pulled pork torta (chipotle dressing, avocado, cilantro and pickled jalapenos) and the sexy time (chicken, bacon, caramelized onions, thyme, chili flakes and brie). The sandwich shop also serves soups and salads, with the roasted pear salad (blue cheese, candied nuts and vinaigrette) being a crowd pleaser.
