Young inmate dies in Umatilla state prison
A 23-year-old inmate died Sunday morning at Two-Rivers Correctional Institution in Umatilla.
Staff were “attending to complaints” from Kenneth Allen when he became unresponsive, according to Oregon Department of Corrections.
They immediately began working to resuscitate Allen until Umatilla emergency responders arrived, according to state officials.
Allen was pronounced dead at 11:19 a.m.
He had been in custody since Jan. 14, 2016, on three counts of theft and one count of possession of heroin in Jackson County, Ore. He was expected to be released from prison in about three months.
The Oregon State Police Criminal Investigation Division will conduct an investigation, as is routine for unanticipated deaths of inmates.
No further information was available Sunday.
