Investigators working scene of Pasco police shooting Sunday
Tri-City police officers and state investigators were working the scene of an officer-involved shooting Sunday, after a man allegedly opened fire on officers Saturday night.
The 31-year-old Pasco man accused of shooting at officers is expected to recover from his wounds.
Pasco police were called out to a report of a violent domestic dispute at 910 S. Ninth Avenue about 10 minutes before midnight.
Officers tried to defuse the situation, but the man failed to follow police commands, they said. On its Facebook page, Pasco police initially said officers tried to use a Taser on him, but it didn’t stop him.
The man then grabbed a silver-colored pistol, pointed it at officers and fired, police said.
Officers shot back an undetermined number of times at the man, wounding him, according to police reports.
No officer was injured, though Pasco police initially reported one officer had two bullet holes through his uniform pants at the ankle.
Police provided medical care until an ambulance arrived to take the man to a hospital for surgery. His name has not been made public. His location is unknown.
Police officers involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is investigated, as is the police department’s policy.
The regional Special Investigation Unit is in charge of investigating.
The Washington State Patrol’s crime lab response team and Tri-City-area officers were collecting evidence inside the house on Sunday.
The number of officers involved in the shooting and their names have yet to be released.
