Flames engulf semi truck, trailer on I-82 west of Kennewick

A semi truck with an empty trailer was destroyed Saturday after it burst into flames 13 miles west of Kennewick.

The fire started about 12:20 p.m. at the Dallas Road offramp on Interstate 82 after the truck’s driver heard a weird noise. The front end of the truck ignited after he got out to check what happened, said Capt. Devin Helland of Benton Fire District 1.

The driver moved away from the fire before crews arrived. Four acres near a hill on Jacobs Road were also burned, Helland said.

Benton Fire Districts 1 and 4 were on the scene and had the flames out at 12:48 p.m.

No other cars were involved and no one was hurt.
