17 kitchens fail latest round of Tri-City restaurant inspections

Seventeen local eateries failed the latest round of Mid-Columbia restaurant inspections, which covers two weeks.

Another 35 received perfect marks.

The Benton-Franklin Health District's food safety team routinely inspects more than 1,000 licensed food service establishments.

Kitchens and stores are scrutinized on a 418-point scale for sanitation, food handling practices and knowledge of food safety rules. Those earning 25 or more of the critical red points on a routine inspection or 10 or more on a follow-up are scheduled for additional visits.
