UPDATE: Mom, child from Kennewick fire going to be OK

The mother and son caught in a home fire Tuesday night in Kennewick are going to be fine, according to the property manager.

Colleen Soden, who manages the Garden Vista home park along 10th Avenue, said Melissa Stith and her 2-year-old son are receiving care at UW Medical Center and Harborview Medical Center, both in Seattle.

Soden said she’s been in contact with Melissa Stith and her husband Richard, a military veteran.

Fire heavily damaged the inside of the Stith’s manufactured home Tuesday before Kennewick firefighters put it out.

Soden said she heard that a candle started the blaze, but fire officials have yet to determine the cause.

Melissa Stith and her two older children, ages 4 and 6, managed to escape the home when the fire started. However, Stith couldn’t find her youngest son.

Fire Chief Vince Beasley said firefighters found the boy and pulled him from the fire. They transported him to Trios Southridge Hospital, which then had him flown to Harborview.
