A 27-year-old man remained in critical condition Monday after he was hit by a pickup along Columbia Park Trail.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office said Justin D. Poteet, who was last known to live in Prosser, was walking east in the middle of the road at 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

A person called emergency dispatchers to report Poteet’s behavior and expressed concern he might get hit by a car.

About a minute later, a Dodge pickup crashed into Poteet from behind in the darkness, said sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Brockman.

The pickup driver, Jefferson T. Person, 61, stayed at the scene with Poteet until first responders arrived.

Brockman said in a news release that Poteet suffered head injuries. He was transported to Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland.
