After two years of planning, Ben Franklin Transit implements a new set of routes and expands its hours today. The transit agency provides more than 3.6 million rides annually.

The system-wide overhaul includes more direct routes, more frequent service, expanded hours and enhanced technology.

The new route structure aligns routes to offer more direct service to reduce travel times. On many routes, buses will come every 30 minutes instead of 60. The hours of operation have been extended by two hours Mondays through Saturdays. Hours of operation are now 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays.

Ben Franklin is also debuting a real-time bus tracker to aid riders, text alerts and free Wi-Fi on specially equipped buses.

A system map is available online, as is fare information.
