Campfire restrictions ramp up Thursday at Umatilla National Forest

Campfires will be allowed only in designated recreation sites of the Umatilla National Forest starting Thursday.

The increased fire restrictions also ban the use of chainsaws, which had been allowed during limited hours.

Other restrictions remain in place.

Smoking is allowed only withing enclosed vehicles, buildings and developed recreation sites or when stopped in an area cleared of all flammable material. Vehicles may not travel off designated roads or trails.
