Tri-City goalie Evan Sarthou calls it a career
Evan Sarthou is trading in his goalie gear for an education.
The Tri-City Americans veteran goaltender announced his retirement Wednesday, on the eve of the team’s training camp.
Sarthou, a native of Black Diamond, told Americans general manager Bob Tory that he was going to pursue a college education.
“It’s not a shock,” Tory said. “I talk to my players continually. He though it was in his best interest to move on.”
That leaves the door open for Beck Warm, Patrick Dea and Xavier Cannon to show what they have to offer when training camp opens Thursday at Toyota Center.
Beck shared time in goal last season with Sarthou and Rylan Parenteau.
Warm played in 10 games, posting a 3-5-0-0 record with a 3.40 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.
“We will move forward,” Tory said. “We are confident in Beck’s abilities. We will see how it plays itself out.”
Sarthou would have been one of five overage players this season. His decision leaves Jordan Topping, Vladislav Lukin, Max James and Brendan O’Reilly as the remaining overage players.
Sarthou spent four season with Tri-City, playing 129 games with a 51-59-4-3 record. He had a combined 3.46 goals against average and a .895 save percentage. He had nine career shutouts.
He ranks seventh all-time in games played, and is tied for fourth with Drew Owsley in shutouts.
