Fake Carmelo Anthony Quote From Knicks Parade Fools 1.3 Million Fans
Knicks legend Carmelo Anthony was in New York City this Thursday to participate in the franchise's championship parade.
Although they made it look easy at times this postseason, the Knicks found themselves in an absolute war with the Spurs in the NBA Finals. Luckily for New York, star guard Jalen Brunson dropped 45 points in Game 5 to secure the team's first title since 1973.
In seven years with the Knicks, Anthony averaged 24.7 points per game. While he was exceptional on the hardwood, his teams failed to make it past the Eastern Conference semifinals.
While some athletes may have been bitter over their former team winning, Anthony made it clear that he's so proud of this year's Knicks squad.
"There are a lot of players who came through this organization and tried to accomplish this right here," Anthony said. "So we all understand the weight of wearing that basketball jersey. To be a supporter of this team, I feel like this whole city won."
A social media account by the name of NBA Centel decided to post Anthony's interview from Thursday's parade along with this fake quote: "I helped build this. A ring would be appreciated."
Unsurprisingly, the popular parody account tricked countless fans with this post.
"Get out dude," a fan replied. "You are not part of this."
"He can have a ring when he finally figures out how to play defense," a second fan commented.
"Refused to play small forward here, his natural position. Vehemently Insisted on being the power forward with Amare on the team," another fan wrote.
Melo has shown nothing but class.
Before the Knicks clinched the NBA championship last Saturday night, Anthony delivered an awesome message to Brunson.
"My message to JB was, Game 5, put the pedal to the metal, but also take their first punch," Anthony said. "If you take that first punch, it's your time. You going to take over. Because if you watching it, you can see it. And that Game 4 just took a lot out of the Spurs."
Even though Brunson has passed Anthony on the list of all-time great Knicks players, he's shown respect time and time again.
