Knicks Locked in on World Cup Hours Before Game 5 Matchup With Spurs

The New York Knicks are locked in on the World Cup just hours before tipping off their Game 5 matchup with the San Antonio Spurs.

After the Knicks’ Game 4 victory, the US Men’s National Team celebrated in a viral video that spread across social media. Hours before the USMNT’s World Cup opener with Paraguay, Knicks guard Deuce McBride reacted to the explosive reaction led by Tyler Adams, a midfielder and native of Wappingers Falls, NY, an hour and a half drive from Madison Square Garden.

“They went crazy?” asked McBride on Friday. “There we go. Shoutout [to them].”

McBride added that he and his teammates will be watching tonight’s game between the USA and Paraguay, at least for the first half, before getting a good night’s sleep prior to their own important game on Saturday.

“Yeah, definitely,” said McBride. “I’m definitely tuning in. 8 p.m. start here, so I’ll be tuned in.”

The Knicks used a historic 29-point comeback, the largest in NBA playoff history, to storm back and stun the Spurs to take a 3-1 lead entering Saturday’s tilt. As it stands early in the matchup, it doesn’t appear the USMNT will require such a comeback against Paraguay, as the Americans hold a multi-goal lead late in the Group D contest.

Both the Knicks and the USA are hoping to become teams of destiny, as New York’s last championship came in 1973, while the USMNT has never won the World Cup. New York is now favored to win the NBA Finals, but the Americans remain +5000 long shots to win the World Cup, according to FanDuel.

The Knicks and Spurs tip off Game 5 at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday in San Antonio.
