Will Victor Wembanyama be Suspended After Flagrant Foul in NBA Finals Game 4?
One of the biggest headlines after Game 3 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs was that Victor Wembanyama was not assessed a flagrant foul after shovingJalen Brunson to the ground off the ball. The play was not ruled a foul of any kind during the game, and the league decided not to upgrade it to a flagrant after the fact.
During Game 4 on Wednesday, Wembanyama faced a similar situation, as he battled for position on defense against Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns, and his elbow hit Towns in the chin.
This time, after reviewing the altercation, the referees determined the play met the criteria of a flagrant foul 1.
With this flagrant against the Knicks, Wembanyama now sits at three flagrant points during the 2026 playoffs. The other two came during Game 4 of the Spurs' second-round series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, when he elbowed Naz Reid in the jaw and was assessed a flagrant foul 2. He was ejected for that foul.
With these three flagrant points, Wembanyama is just one flagrant point away from facing an automatic suspension, which would be triggered if he is assessed one more flagrant foul during the NBA Finals.

Wembanyama has been fantastic during the postseason, including leading the Spurs to a Game 3 victory over the Knicks on Monday with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks and two steals.
Without the fourth flagrant point during the playoffs, Wembanyama is set to be back on the court against the Knicks in Game 5 on Saturday in San Antonio.
