Former ESPN Personality David Jacoby 'Hates' Victor Wembanyama
Apparently, Victor Wembanyama has struck a nerve with a large portion of the NBA community.
Wembanyama has lived up to the hype during the NBA Finals, averaging 29.0 points and 9.7 rebounds per game for the San Antonio Spurs. He silenced a hostile crowd at Madison Square Garden on Monday night by dropping 32 points on the New York Knicks.
"The playoffs, it's like a whirlwind. It's hard to put your head out of the water," Wembanyama said after Game 3. "Sometimes, I don't even have time to watch the games back right away. I need some time off to let my brain cool down, recover. Recover as much for the body as for the mind."
Despite his undeniable talent, Wembanyama has ruffled some feathers this postseason due to some questionable decisions on the court. In Game 3 of the NBA Finals, he got away with shoving Knicks star Jalen Brunson to the ground. If we rewind to the second round of the playoffs, he was ejected for elbowing Naz Reid of the Minnesota Timberwolves right in the throat.
Some fans and even former NBA players, like Stephon Marbury, have accused Wembanyama of being a dirty player.
Former ESPN personality David Jacoby, meanwhile, made it extremely clear that he's not a fan of Wembanyama. In fact, the veteran podcaster for The Ringer admit that he "hates" the French phenom.
"My blood is still a little bit boiling about this Brunson thing, because I've seen it a million times. I think (Wembanyama) emotionally can't control himself. And really, I started drumming up a dislike for him this summer, and now it's just at a million," Jacoby said. "I cannot stand this guy. I hate his outfits. I hate his face. I hate his hair. I hate everything about him. I think he's just, like, such a try-hard."
Fans fire back at David Jacoby.
Though we're not really surprised, NBA fans found this take from Jacoby to be a bit too emotional.
"Is this not an incredible odd stance from someone in a big media company that also has votes for MVP/All NBA," one fan said.
"Wemby hate so forced cuz he legit does all the things people supposedly want from the NBA," a second fan wrote.
"This is pathetic," another fan commented.
Wembanyama is on pace to be an All-Star player for years to come, so this won't be the last time someone unleashes a rant about him.
As for Wembanyama's immediate future, he'll try to lead the Spurs to a Game 4 victory this Wednesday night.
