NBA Recognizes Unique Start to 2026 Finals Between Spurs-Knicks

Home-court advantage proved insignificant through the first three games of the 2026 NBA Finals.

The New York Knicks stole both Game 1 and Game 2 on the road against the San Antonio Spurs, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead. Then, the Spurs bounced back with a Game 3 victory at Madison Square Garden - spoiling the Knicks’ first NBA Finals home game since 1999.

These results represent just the second time in NBA Finals history that the road team has won each of the first three games. The first and only other time this happened was the 1993 NBA Finals between the Chicago Bulls and Phoenix Suns.

Michael Jordan and the Bulls stole Game 1 and Game 2 on the road in Phoenix. Charles Barkley and the Suns responded in Game 3, notching their first victory in Chicago.

The Bulls would go on to win the series with a 4-2 final score.

The NBA recognized this historic milestone with a post on social media Wednesday.

“WHAT A START TO THE NBA FINALS,” the league wrote on X. “For only the SECOND time in Finals history, the road team has won each of the first three games of the series! The other? Bulls vs. Suns in 1993.”

The Bulls responded to their Game 3 loss at home with a win in Game 4. The Knicks will attempt to do the same in their Game 4 matchup against the Spurs, which will tipoff at 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
