Anthony Edwards' Message After Unfortunate Injury News
Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves entered the 2026 NBA playoffs hoping for another deep postseason run. Instead, their season ended in the second round at the hands of the San Antonio Spurs, who won the series in six games and advanced behind the emergence of Victor Wembanyama.
Minnesota's task became significantly more difficult because of injuries. Guard Donte DiVincenzo suffered a torn right Achilles tendon during the first-round series against the Denver Nuggets, ending his postseason and potentially impacting the start of next season. In that same game, Edwards hyperextended his left knee and suffered a bone bruise after his knee buckled awkwardly while contesting a shot.
The injury initially sparked major concern inside the Timberwolves organization. Fortunately for Minnesota, scans revealed no structural damage, and the All-Star guard worked aggressively to return to the floor.
With the offseason now underway for Minnesota, The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski revealed Edwards' initial fear after suffering the injury. Edwards reportedly sent a message to one of his closest friends after the injury, as he worried he had suffered a major setback that could impact his long-term availability.

For the first time in his career, Anthony Edwards had to devote himself to recovery. In doing so, he found a new way to lead the Timberwolves.

He ultimately came back ahead of schedule for the Spurs series, including an 18-point performance in Game 1.
Still, Edwards never appeared fully healthy. His trademark explosiveness was noticeably diminished, and the Spurs consistently trapped and pressured him throughout the series.
Edwards is expected to make progress toward full recovery throughout the offseason as he prepares for Year 7. The 24-year-old remains the face of Minnesota's franchise and is under contract through the 2028-29 season on the five-year designated rookie supermax extension he signed in 2023, a deal that could reach up to $260 million.
Edwards is still one of the NBA's brightest young stars and as long as he is on the floor, the Timberwolves will enter next season believing their championship window remains open.
